A 24-year-old illegal miner has been detained by the police after reportedly defiling a little girl in Akrokere, in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.
The 9-year-old victim of Ebenezer Adu is presently enrolled in Primary 3.
According to a source close to Adom News, the mother of the young child and the suspect share a home.
The source said that the woman had asked the suspect to make room in his room for the little child whenever her boyfriend or fiancé paid her a nighttime visit.
The source said that the miner took advantage of the concession and repeatedly violated the little girl.
When the little girl arrived at school with a cellphone that the illegal miner had purchased for her, the entire story came to light.
Faustina Yamu, the mother of the girl, verified the information to Adom News over the phone.
She stated that while her daughter is undergoing treatment at the hospital, the culprit has been turned over to the Obuasi police.
